Intercom Fin Pricing: What $0.99 per Resolution Really Costs

September 24, 2026

Answers from your own pages, human handoff, one line of JavaScript. Plans from $49/mo with AI conversations included.

Intercom Fin costs $0.99 per outcome, where an outcome is a conversation Fin resolves or a workflow it completes. On Intercom's own helpdesk you also pay for seats ($29, $85 or $132 per seat per month on annual billing). A 3 person team with 500 Fin resolutions a month pays about $582; at 2,000 resolutions the Fin line alone is $1,980.

That is the short version. The rest of this page works through what the bill looks like at real volumes, what actually triggers a charge, and where a flat priced tool like the one on our cheaper alternative to Intercom page comes out ahead.

How much does Intercom Fin cost?

Intercom Fin costs $0.99 per outcome. If you run Fin on top of another helpdesk such as Zendesk or Salesforce, there is a minimum of 50 outcomes a month ($49.50). If you run it inside Intercom, the $0.99 charge sits on top of your seat plan, so you pay for people and for AI separately.

The seat plans, as listed on Intercom's pricing page in September 2026 with annual billing:

Intercom planPrice per seat per monthFin charge
Essential$29$0.99 per outcome
Advanced$85$0.99 per outcome
Expert$132$0.99 per outcome
Copilot add-on$29 per agent ($35 billed monthly)Not an outcome charge

Monthly billing costs more per seat than the annual figures above, so treat these as the floor.

What counts as a Fin resolution?

A Fin resolution is counted when the customer confirms the answer helped, or leaves without asking for more help after Fin replies. Intercom also bills an outcome when Fin completes a workflow you configured, including one that ends by handing the customer to a human. Conversations where the customer asks for a person straight away are generally not billed.

Two details catch buyers out. First, "left without asking for more help" counts as resolved, so a visitor who gives up and closes the tab can still produce a charge. Second, workflow outcomes mean a handoff you designed can be billable even though a person finishes the job. Neither is hidden, but both mean your outcome count usually lands closer to your total AI conversation count than you might expect.

Intercom Fin cost at 500, 2,000 and 5,000 conversations

Here is the arithmetic most pricing pages leave to you. Fin cost is simply outcomes multiplied by $0.99. The seat column assumes the Essential plan at annual billing, which is the cheapest way to run Fin inside Intercom.

Fin outcomes per monthFin chargePlus seats (Essential)Total per monthTotal per year
500$4953 seats: $87$582$6,984
1,000$9905 seats: $145$1,135$13,620
2,000$1,98010 seats: $290$2,270$27,240
5,000$4,95025 seats: $725$5,675$68,100

If your team needs Advanced for multiple inboxes or workflow features, swap $29 for $85 per seat. At 10 seats that adds $560 a month before Fin answers a single question.

Your resolution rate changes the Fin line, not the logic. If Fin handles 2,000 conversations and 60% end as outcomes, you pay for 1,200, which is $1,188. The catch is that you are then budgeting against a number you cannot control: the better Fin gets, the higher the invoice.

Is Intercom Fin worth $0.99 per resolution?

Fin is worth $0.99 per resolution when each resolved chat would otherwise cost you more than that in agent time, and when your volume is steady enough to forecast. For a team paying a support rep around $25 an hour who closes six chats an hour, a human chat costs roughly $4, so Fin at $0.99 is cheaper per ticket.

That comparison is the one Intercom wants you to make, and for large support teams it holds. It gets weaker in three situations:

  • Most of your questions are repeats. Shipping times, pricing tiers, password resets. These are exactly the conversations any AI trained on your site answers well, and paying $0.99 each for them adds up fast.
  • Your volume is seasonal. An ecommerce store that triples chats in November triples the Fin line too, right when margins are tight.
  • You are small. A 3 person team with 500 AI answers a month pays around $7,000 a year to Intercom. That is real money for a seed stage SaaS or a single store.

It is also worth putting the Fin line next to the rest of your software bill. Support tools tend to creep, and if you want to track SaaS spend across every subscription in one view, variable charges like per-outcome AI are the first ones worth watching.

Does Intercom charge for conversations Fin cannot answer?

Generally no. If Fin cannot help and the customer asks for a person, that conversation is not billed as a resolution. The exception is a configured workflow that ends in a handoff: Intercom counts a completed workflow as an outcome at $0.99 even though a human takes over. Check which of your workflows are set to end that way.

Can I use Fin without paying for Intercom seats?

Yes. Fin can run on top of other helpdesks, including Zendesk, Salesforce, HubSpot, Freshworks, Front and Gorgias, without Intercom seats. You still pay $0.99 per outcome with a 50 outcome monthly minimum. You keep paying your existing helpdesk's seat fees, so the total depends on that vendor.

How to cut your Fin bill without losing AI answers

There are two honest routes. The first is to stay on Intercom and shrink billable outcomes: tighten your help content so Fin answers fewer repeat questions that belong on a FAQ page, and review workflows that end in billable handoffs. That trims the bill but keeps the pricing model.

The second is to move website chat to a tool that includes AI in a flat plan. InChat is built for that job: it trains an AI agent on your own pages, docs and FAQ, answers visitors with the source attached, and hands off to your team with the transcript and a suggested reply. Pricing is one monthly figure with AI conversations included:

InChat planMonthly billingBilled yearlyAI conversations includedTeam members
Starter$49/mo$24/mo500 per month3
Plus$149/mo$74/mo2,000 per month10
Pro$499/mo$249/moUnlimitedUnlimited

Set side by side: the 10 person team handling 2,000 AI conversations pays $2,270 a month on Intercom Essential with Fin, or $149 a month on InChat Plus. One difference to weigh fairly: InChat counts every AI conversation against the plan, while Intercom only bills resolved outcomes. Even if only half your AI conversations would have resolved on Fin, the flat plan still costs a fraction of the per-outcome bill. The full plan list is on our AI chatbot pricing page.

Intercom remains the stronger pick if you depend on native mobile SDKs, in-app product tours or its integration marketplace. If what you actually use is a chat widget on your website with AI in front and people behind it, you are paying per outcome for something that is available at a flat rate. You can see how SaaS, ecommerce and agency teams set it up on the AI chatbot use cases page.

Intercom Fin pricing FAQ

Is Fin included in Intercom plans?

No. Fin is billed separately at $0.99 per outcome on every Intercom plan, on top of seat fees. Essential, Advanced and Expert all use the same Fin rate, so upgrading your seat plan does not lower the AI charge.

Is there a cap on Intercom Fin charges?

Fin is usage based, so the bill scales with outcomes rather than a fixed cap. Budget from your real conversation volume and assume a high share of AI conversations end as billable outcomes, since a customer leaving without asking for more help counts as resolved.

What is a cheaper alternative to Intercom Fin?

A cheaper alternative to Intercom Fin is an AI chatbot with conversations included in a flat plan. InChat, for example, includes 500 AI conversations on Starter ($49 a month) and 2,000 on Plus ($149 a month), with no per-resolution fee. Compare the numbers on our Intercom alternative page.
