Zendesk Chat Pricing and Zendesk AI Agent Pricing per Resolution
October 02, 2026
Zendesk chat pricing starts at $55 per agent a month on Suite Team with annual billing ($69 billed monthly), because Zendesk now sells live chat and messaging inside its Suite plans. Suite Professional is $115 per agent ($149 monthly) and Suite Enterprise is quoted by sales. On top of the seat, Zendesk AI agents include 5 to 10 automated resolutions per agent a month, then cost $1.50 to $2.00 for each extra one.
So a Zendesk chat bill has two meters: how many agents you staff, and how many conversations the AI closes. Below are the plans that include chat, how automated resolutions are counted and billed, the add-ons, and monthly totals for four real team sizes. Prices come from zendesk.com/pricing and Zendesk's help center, checked in October 2026, in US dollars.
Zendesk chat pricing plans compared
| Plan | Annual billing (per agent, per month) | Monthly billing | Messaging and live chat | Automated resolutions included | Copilot |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Support Team | $19 | $25 | Not included | 5 per agent a month (email) | Not available |
| Suite Team | $55 | $69 | Included, 2 departments | 5 per agent a month | $50 per agent add-on |
| Suite Professional | $115 | $149 | Included, unlimited departments | 10 per agent a month | $50 per agent add-on |
| Suite Enterprise | Quoted by sales | Quoted by sales | Included | Set in the contract | Bundled in Enterprise + Copilot |
All plans come with a 14-day free trial, and there is no free plan. The important line is the first one: the $19 Support Team plan is a ticketing plan for email and web forms. If you want a chat widget on your website, the entry price is the $55 Suite Team seat. Suite Professional adds unlimited chat departments, deeper reporting, skills-based routing and the compliance features that bigger teams ask for in security reviews.
How much does Zendesk chat cost per month?
A team that runs website chat on Zendesk with AI agents switched on typically pays between $400 and $6,000 a month. The seats are predictable. The AI line depends on your chat volume, and because the included allowance is small (15 resolutions a month for a 3-agent Suite Team account), almost every resolution on a busy site is billed.
The four setups below are priced on annual billing, with the AI resolving about 40 percent of chat conversations and extra resolutions at the $2.00 pay-as-you-go rate. The committed rate of $1.50 needs you to buy a volume up front.
| Team | Plan | Seats | AI resolutions a month (included) | Extra resolutions cost | Total a month |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Small store, 3 agents, 400 chats | Suite Team | 3 x $55 = $165 | 150 (15 included) | 135 x $2.00 = $270 | about $435 |
| Growing SaaS, 8 agents, 1,500 chats | Suite Team | 8 x $55 = $440 | 600 (40 included) | 560 x $2.00 = $1,120 | about $1,560 |
| Same team with Copilot | Suite Team + Copilot | 8 x ($55 + $50) = $840 | 600 (40 included) | $1,120 | about $1,960 |
| Support org, 20 agents, 5,000 chats | Suite Professional | 20 x $115 = $2,300 | 2,000 (200 included) | 1,800 x $2.00 = $3,600 | about $5,900 |
At the committed $1.50 rate the four totals drop to about $368, $1,280, $1,680 and $5,000. Either way, the AI line is larger than the seat line once a site gets real chat traffic, which surprises most buyers who budgeted from the per-agent price alone. Voice and SMS usage, if you use them, are billed on top.
How does Zendesk AI agent pricing work?
Zendesk prices its AI agents by outcome: you pay for each automated resolution, a conversation the AI agent handled without a human agent stepping in. Every plan includes a small monthly allowance per agent (5 on Team plans, 10 on Suite Professional), and extra resolutions cost $1.50 each on a committed volume or $2.00 pay as you go.
For messaging, which covers website chat, Zendesk's help center says a conversation is evaluated 2 hours after the customer's first message by default, a window you can extend up to 72 hours. It counts as a resolution when Zendesk's AI evaluation confirms the reply was relevant. For email and web forms the check happens after 72 hours of inactivity and requires that no human agent replied. Zendesk also groups resolutions into tiers (assisted escalation, contained resolution and verified resolution), drawn from the account's resolution allowance.
The model is fair in one sense: a conversation that needs a human is not billed as a resolution. The cost problem is predictability. Your bill now rises with traffic, so a product launch, a holiday rush or an outage that sends every customer to chat all show up on the invoice. If a site outage is what floods your chat, uptime monitoring that alerts you before customers do lets you post a status message early and keep those conversations from piling up at all.
Is Zendesk chat cheaper than Intercom or Help Scout?
Not for small teams. Zendesk's cheapest seat with chat is $55 a month on annual billing, while Intercom's Essential seat is $29 and Help Scout's Standard is $25, both with chat. On AI, Zendesk's $1.50 to $2.00 per resolution is above Intercom Fin at $0.99 per outcome and Help Scout AI Answers at $0.75.
Zendesk earns its price in other places: a full omnichannel help desk with voice, mature routing and SLAs, multi-brand support and a large app marketplace. If you need those, the comparison is with Salesforce Service Cloud or Freshdesk, not chat tools. If you mainly need website chat that answers well, compare the same math in our Intercom Fin pricing breakdown and Help Scout pricing breakdown.
Does Zendesk charge per agent for chat?
Yes. Every Zendesk plan that includes messaging and live chat is priced per agent per month: $55 on Suite Team and $115 on Suite Professional with annual billing. Each person who answers chats needs a seat, and Copilot, the agent-assist add-on, adds $50 per agent a month billed yearly.
Per-agent pricing is easy to forecast when headcount is stable. Support hiring rarely is. Going from 3 to 6 chat agents for the holiday season doubles the seat line, and the resolution allowance only grows by 15. Seasonal teams often find that the AI was meant to replace those hires, yet the bill grew in both columns.
What is a cheaper alternative to Zendesk chat?
For website chat with AI answers, InChat is the cheaper alternative: Starter is $24 a month billed yearly with 500 AI conversations and 3 team members, Plus is $74 with 2,000 AI conversations and 10 team members, and Pro is $249 with unlimited conversations and unlimited team members. There is no per-agent seat and no fee per resolution.
| Team | Zendesk total | InChat plan | InChat total |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 agents, 150 AI resolutions | about $435 | Starter | $24 |
| 8 agents, 600 AI resolutions | about $1,280 to $1,960 | Plus | $74 |
| 20 agents, 2,000 AI resolutions | about $5,000 to $5,900 | Pro | $249 |
The comparison is fair only for the chat part of the job. Zendesk is a full help desk with ticketing, phone and enterprise reporting. InChat is an AI chatbot that trains on your website and help center, with human handoff and a shared inbox (email, WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram are on Plus). Many teams keep Zendesk for email tickets and phone and move website chat to InChat, which can read the Zendesk Guide articles they already wrote. How to estimate your own Zendesk chat bill
Take three numbers from Zendesk Explore: how many agents answer chat, how many messaging conversations you get a month, and what share a good AI could close from your help center (30 to 50 percent is common). Then:
- Seats: agents x $55 (Suite Team) or $115 (Suite Professional), plus $50 per agent if you want Copilot.
- Allowance: agents x 5 (or x 10 on Professional) resolutions included.
- AI: (chat conversations x AI share) minus the allowance, x $2.00, or x $1.50 if you commit to a volume.
Example: 5 agents on Suite Team with 1,000 chats a month and a 40 percent AI share is 5 x $55 = $275, plus (400 minus 25) x $2.00 = $750, so about $1,025 a month. On InChat the same volume fits Plus at $74 a month billed yearly. To see how well the AI would answer your customers, paste your help center URL into the tool at the top of this page and ask it your ten most common chat questions.
Zendesk chat pricing FAQ
