Chatbase Pricing, Plans, Credits and Real Monthly Cost
September 28, 2026
Chatbase pricing starts at $40 a month for Hobby, $150 for Standard and $500 for Pro, or $32, $120 and $400 a month on yearly billing. There is also a free plan with 50 message credits and a quoted Enterprise tier. Every plan is built around a monthly pool of message credits (700, 4,000 and 15,000), and one credit pays for one AI reply on a basic model. Stronger models use 2 to 6 credits per reply.
So the plan name tells you the floor, and the credit pool tells you the real bill. Below are the plans, what a credit actually buys, the add-ons that most teams end up paying for, and monthly totals for four real setups. Chatbase figures come from chatbase.co/pricing, checked in September 2026, in US dollars.
Chatbase pricing plans compared
| Plan | Monthly billing | Yearly billing (per month) | Message credits | Seats | Training data | Notable features |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | 50 | 1 | 1 MB | Limited models, agent deleted after 14 days of inactivity |
| Hobby | $40 | $32 | 700 | 2 | 10 MB | Advanced models, integrations, basic analytics |
| Standard | $150 | $120 | 4,000 | 3 | 20 MB | Help desk (human handoff), voice, API, Stripe and Zendesk integrations |
| Pro | $500 | $400 | 15,000 | 5 | 40 MB | Advanced analytics, source suggestions, tickets as a source |
| Enterprise | Quoted | Quoted | Custom | Custom | Custom | SSO, white label, audit logs, HIPAA eligible |
Each paid plan includes one AI agent. The add-ons are where the bill grows:
- Extra message credits: $40 per 1,000, bought as auto-recharge blocks.
- Extra AI agents: $25 a month each, for a second site, brand or language.
- Remove Chatbase branding: $99 a month on any plan below Enterprise.
How much does Chatbase cost per month?
A realistic Chatbase bill for a live business website lands between $150 and $600 a month. Hobby at $40 fits a single person testing a bot or a site with fewer than about 175 conversations a month. Once you need a person to take over chats in the help desk, the starting point is Standard at $150, and branding removal adds $99 on top.
The spread comes from three decisions: how many conversations you get, which model you pick, and whether you pay to put your own brand on the widget. The next two sections show how each one moves the number.
How do Chatbase message credits work?
A Chatbase message credit pays for one AI reply. Basic models use 1 credit per reply, mid-range models such as recent GPT and Gemini versions use 2, and the strongest Claude, Grok and GPT models use 3 to 6. Your visitor's questions are free; the AI's answers are what draw down the pool.
The catch is that people rarely ask one question. A shopper asks about shipping, then returns, then whether a size runs small. Four replies per conversation is a fair average for a store or SaaS site, which turns the plan pools into conversation counts like this:
| Plan | Credits | Conversations at 1 credit per reply | At 3 credits per reply | At 6 credits per reply |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | 50 | about 12 | about 4 | about 2 |
| Hobby | 700 | about 175 | about 58 | about 29 |
| Standard | 4,000 | about 1,000 | about 333 | about 166 |
| Pro | 15,000 | about 3,750 | about 1,250 | about 625 |
If your conversations are longer, for example a SaaS trial user working through setup, divide again. This is also why the choice of model is a pricing decision on Chatbase, not only a quality one.
What happens when you run out of Chatbase credits?
When the monthly credits are used up, the Chatbase agent stops generating AI replies until the pool resets or you buy more. With auto-recharge on, Chatbase adds credits in blocks of 1,000 for $40 each, so the bot keeps answering and the extra cost shows up on your next invoice.
For a store in a sales week that is usually the right call, since a silent bot on Black Friday costs more than $40. It does mean the monthly bill follows traffic, which is the part most finance teams push back on.
Chatbase cost at four real team sizes
Here is the monthly bill for four common setups, using monthly billing, 4 replies per conversation and the list prices above. The last column is what the same setup costs on InChat's flat plans, where the limit is whole AI conversations and branding removal and human handoff are included.
| Setup | Chatbase monthly total | InChat monthly total |
|---|---|---|
| Solo founder, about 150 conversations, Chatbase badge kept, no handoff | Hobby $40 | Starter $49 |
| 2 people, about 300 conversations, own branding | Hobby $40 + 1,000 credits $40 + branding $99 = $179 | Starter $49 |
| 3 people with handoff, about 800 conversations, own branding | Standard $150 + branding $99 = $249 | Plus $149 |
| 5 people, about 2,000 conversations, own branding, second site | Pro $500 + branding $99 + extra agent $25 = $624 | Plus $149 for one site, or Pro $499 for unlimited sites and conversations |
The honest reading: for the smallest bot, Chatbase is $9 cheaper. From the moment you want your own brand on the widget or a person in the loop, a flat plan wins by $100 to $475 a month. We walk through the switch step by step on our Chatbase alternative page.
Is Chatbase worth the money?
Chatbase is worth the money if you want fine control over which AI model answers, need an AI voice agent on the phone, or run a low-volume bot where the Hobby plan is enough. It is a good product with a fast setup, and its model menu is wider than most competitors offer.
It is harder to justify when the chatbot is part of your support desk. Human handoff sits on the $150 plan, your own branding is another $99, and any growth in traffic becomes a credit top-up. Service businesses that mainly use chat to screen new clients may be better served by a tool built to run the discovery consultation and qualify the lead before a call, with the website chatbot handling everything else.
Does Chatbase offer a discount?
Yes. Paying yearly takes 20% off every paid plan, which brings Hobby to $32, Standard to $120 and Pro to $400 a month. The discount applies to the plan price only; credit top-ups, extra agents and branding removal are billed at the same rates.
How Chatbase compares with other chatbot pricing models
Chatbots price AI in three ways, and it helps to know which one you are buying:
- Per reply credits (Chatbase): cheap to start, but the bill depends on conversation length and model choice.
- Per resolution fees (Intercom Fin at $0.99 per outcome, covered in our Intercom Fin pricing guide): you pay only when the AI closes a conversation, on top of seat fees.
- Included AI allowances (Crisp's monthly AI credit, see our Crisp pricing breakdown, or InChat's conversations per plan): a fixed amount inside the subscription.
If your chat volume is steady and predictable, any of the three works. If it spikes with sales, launches or seasons, the included allowance is the one that keeps the invoice flat.
The short version
Chatbase costs $40, $150 or $500 a month, and the credit pool behind each plan covers roughly 175, 1,000 or 3,750 conversations on a basic model, fewer on stronger ones. Budget $99 more for your own branding and $150 as the minimum for live human handoff. If you would rather pay for conversations than replies, paste your website into the tool at the top of this page and see how InChat answers your own customer questions.
